Composition IX Rug
Composition IX Rug
The notion of music is often found in Kandinsky’s art, he even gave many of his paintings musical titles such as his Ten Compositions. The rug is designed after a portion of this impressive Composition IX. Comprising many natural shapes and motifs such as the curve, it belongs to the biomorphic abstraction style. Contrast between the sharp and the soft, the symmetrical and the asymmetrical as well as the bright and muted hues of color is notable. This piece is composed of varying textures which are a product of long experimentations with weaving techniques by artisans. It is an ideal symbol of the love for trial and innovation at Ruggism.
Our Kandinsky Collection is a renaissance of the artwork of Russian-born painter Wassily Kandinsky, acclaimed artist and pioneer in the pure abstraction and avant-garde art movements. As the artist once said that "Everything starts with a dot," so did this collection, which today has become a fully fledged series of 8 handmade rugs. The designs uphold the artist's commitment to the synesthesia of colour, sound, and spiritual expression in art. His works linked with the Cosmic world inspired many motifs for this collection. .

A bridge between Artists and Artisans
Ruggism creates contemporary hand-made rugs and all collaborations are based on the the simple yet significant founding belief that to bring beauty in this world, we must reduce the gap between people who 'design' and the people who 'make'. The result of these collaborations are the designs that truly stand out, designs that tell a story of both the artist and the artisans.
“The contrasting features of art and design, trends and timeless classics, heritage and modernity, always fill me with excitement and curiosity. That's why when designing rugs, we strive to embrace the rich heritage of thousand-year-old craftsmanship and fuse it with contemporary sensibilities.
This approach gives birth to rugs that are steeped in tradition, yet resonate with our current times and culture.”
